Concerns over the rollout of NHS 111

The new NHS 111 number, which will replace NHS Direct, will handle all urgent but non-life threatening calls.

 

The service was due to be released in April 2013, but the BMA says existing services may come under strain.

 

The new number is currently being piloted in a number of areas and the results are to be published shortly. Dr Buckman from the BMA is “worried that the strict deadlines in place at the moment means lessons from these won’t be learned and mistakes will just be repeated".
