NHS gears up for the Olympics

10 May 2012

As the Olympic torch is lit today in Greece it is not only the athletes that are making their final preparations for the Games.

With only 78 days to go, the NHS is working flat-out to ensure that it is “business as usual” during the Games.

Concerns include increases in drink-related injuries, food poisoning, respiratory problems and even the possibility of a flu pandemic.

The NHS is hoping that pharmacies and walk-in centres will be able to take some of the pressure off the A&E departments. Pharmacies in the east of London are also ordering additional supplies in order to cope with the influx of people to the area.
